Makeup Do's and Don'ts

We all know the rules, so why do we constantly see women violating classic makeup do's and don'ts everywhere we go? Don't get me wrong I love my Jersey Shore but it's as if the makeup trends of these Jersey women have infiltrated our makeup bags and vanities...and NOT in a good way.  Some classic no-no's that may have been picked up from these leading ladies are as follows:

1. Too Much Bronzer: Ladies, if you're a fair skinned kind of gal DON'T go crazy with the bronzer.  Nothing screams faux louder than war paint draped over your cheekbones.  There's nothing wrong with adding a little color to your face, just don't get bronzer happy and create a look that we can all see coming a mile away.

Instead, DO go for a bronzer that looks more natural on you (we're trying to look sun-kissed here, not like we're Indian warriors out for battle).  Choose a shade that works well with YOUR skin tone.  Remember, just because so and so swears by a product she's been using since high school doesn't mean that it's going to be a great product for you and your makeup needs.

FYI:  For a natural looking tan, pick a bronzer that is one or two shades darker than your skin tone. Try to avoid overly shimmery bronzers, not only will they make you appear older (shimmery products highlight your fine lines and wrinkles) but they will make your skin appear fake!

 2. DON'T draw your eyebrows on, it brings to mind Angelica Houston's role as Morticia Addams in The Addams Family (not to mention...it looks a little scary).  Look ladies, our eyebrows bring balance to our facial structure and shape so don't go crazy with the tweezer (we want to look like we have some hair up there, if it's all pencil it doesn't look real).

DO create short hair like strokes along the brows to the end. Choose a brow pencil that is one shade lighter than your natural brow color and NEVER use a black pencil to fill in your brows (unless of course your brows are super, super dark).

FYI:  For a more natural look blend the colors with a brow brush.

3. DON'T over-do it with too many  colors.  You don't have to display every trend at one time! Too many colors can make you look like a clown; use bold colors, but use them judiciously.

DO have a bold focus.  Use bold colors in subtle ways so as not to overpower your face. A good rule of thumb to not go too vibrant is to choose one facial emphasis.  If you're going to use a vibrant color scheme on your eyes then down play your lips.  If you're going to go bold on your lips (red or fuchsia for example) then don't go too heavy with the makeup on the eyes.
